I was there 3 days ago before flight to Bali. I think the airport has been renovated so well, it looks different than 2 years ago. Now it seems so good and clean even though they still have Javanese accent on the ceiling.

The airport staff help me a lot to get my line also reach to the check in centre. It was really nice.

Main airport in Surabaya.

For arrival, you almost miss the baggage carousel and go to the exit. I think its location is quite bad and unfriendly for travelers. From arrival gate to the exit is really close. It is nice. Once you go through the exit door, "taxi rush" welcomes you!

For departure, there is a huge space and not compact. As far as I remember, there are a souvenir shop, a restaurant, and a Starbucks, etc. Chairs are not comfortable or suitable for a long sitting. Anyway, everything is clean and well-maintained.

One of the busiest and oldest airports in Indonesia. The building is a mix of modern and traditional. This airport is always busy. Very crowded waiting room. There are many places to recharge the cellphone battery.

Tldr; not the best, not the worst.
First of all, the access is of an acceptable level of difficulty. It has the national company, Damri, providing buses to Purabaya bus terminal and some other further away terminals. Prices start at 35k IDR (~2.5$). From those terminals you may need to get another bus to city center. One other easier option is to simply get a GoJek or Grab from the airport to your place, as a bike ride would be around 50k IDR.
Second, the airport is closed between 11pm and 3am, so no overnight stays are possible.
Next, most of the waiting areas are not air conditioned, but once you pass the ticket control, everything is air-conditioned.
Opposite to what's written on the internet, there is a luggage storage at the airport. It is located inside the Ibis Hotel, behind the land-side information desk of the domestic terminal. The price starts at 20k/24h.
Finally, there's a good amount of washrooms and the Wi-Fi is pretty reliable.

From the last time I flew (2yrs ago) this airport is now completely rotting down... There is not a single shop open either outside or inside the airport.. NOTHING.
I've travelled the world but I have never witnessed anything like it!
Aircon is being put at its minimum to possibly save costs. NO lights as you can see.
JUST AN AWFUL EXPERIENCE

Decent airport, fairly clean, decent security, no bad experience. In case you didn't know, the vendor offering taxi service near the gate yelling there's no taxi outside of the gate, that's a lie, they charge exorbitant amount as well there.

Clean airport, with simple path to check in and boarding.
In the parking area, they well maneged.

Food court always ready, even when I took an early flight at 6 in the morning.

Bagage handling is ok for me when i took citylink or garuda. No issue happened.

Rest room also clean in here.
