Tripadvisor needs a category above the current 5 stars. Its really difficult to find faulty with Segera, so I will focus purely on what I liked about this special place. The rooms are ultra comfortable, large and stunning. The architectural style is unique - with inspiration from the farm's historical horse stables that have been turned into an art display area. The large garden is a green paradise, full of interesting plants and artwork - with great bird watching as well. The service and food are top drawer - this is a very well-run lodge, indeed. And equally importantly this lodge's entire operation and set-up is underpinned by impressive sustainability standards. I enjoyed knowing that my stay there was not at great expense to the environment and local community - in fact quite the opposite is true. Amongst other things the lodge operates on solar power, processes all human waste and captures and stores rain water which is then also recycled for garden and other use. The most impressive aspect to their sustainability backbone is their commitment to the surrounding communities. During my stay I visited the local primary school which was funded by Segera – and the rainwater collection and filtering setup was very impressive, as was the vegetable garden and solar power installation. I also visited the local community centre, also kitted out with rainwater collection and solar power. Surely one of Africa's premier lodges.
